PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
The Athenian School seeks a part-time assistant coach to help develop and lead our wrestling team with the primary aim of ensuring an accessible, equitable, inclusive and competitive experience for all participants. This candidate will help student-athletes to develop good sportsmanship, become positive role models, stress team first over individual achievement, and promote overall team success and values.
This person will work collaboratively with the Athletics Department, other coaches, faculty and staff to nurture participation and growth from all athletes. This candidate will coach our women’s lacrosse program to allow for a campus presence and the opportunity to connect directly with and support student athletes. Responsibilities include practice plans, game management, statistics management, and program coordination and communication with coaches, parents, student-athletes, faculty and staff.
Coaches manage uniform and team equipment needs, post match results to the website, and manage the team website. Must be available for practice during weekdays from 3:00-6:00pm and travel with team to away matches departing as early as 2:00pm and returning as late as 9:00pm.
In addition to these responsibilities, multiple season coaches have the chance to apply for and serve as part of our residential life team which would include dormitory housing. Coaches may also have the option of teaching PE classes during the day.
CORE QUALIFICATIONS
We seek candidates that have experience coaching at the high school (grades 9-12) or college level. A high school diploma is required for this role. Successful candidates will demonstrate strong interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills as well as technological fluency. They will model flexibility, a mission-aligned approach to supporting student growth and strong initiative. They will possess the ability to collaborate effectively with students and colleagues, a clear love of athletics, and an understanding of and appreciation for working with adolescents. Candidates must also have a passion for working with adolescents and a commitment to democracy, justice, equity, inclusion, service, and environmental stewardship.

Athenian provides excellent benefits and salaries are competitive and commensurate with work experience and education. The stipend for this role is $3,500. Community members enjoy meals on campus and use of athletics facilities, including a pool, gym and fitness center.

These include, but are not limited to, funded participation in professional conferences and continuing education opportunities. Athenian provides needed training for CPR/AED certification.
